As I was getting ready for my health scan, I felt anxious — this might be an hour that changed my life. The scan would monitor for skin cancer, heart and vascular, blood sugar and cholesterol, and other things. But by the time I was at the clinic, the soothing environment and warm staff were helping me to ease up. This wasn’t about disease — it was about prevention.
Neko Health, established by Spotify entrepreneur Daniel Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, is part of a fresh generation of initiative-driven healthcare. Founded in Sweden in 2023 and having just launched in the UK, the firm already has a waiting list of 100,000 people, roughly half of them from the UK. A second London branch is already in the pipeline.
Within the hour visit, millions of data points are gathered to look for problems such as heart disease, risk for diabetes, and skin cancer. It begins with a whole-body mole scan, followed by screening for blood pressure, grip, eye pressure, and a blood test. The doctor goes through it all, examines your moles and your heart, and discusses your findings with you immediately.
Your medical information is then separated into seven easy-to-understand sections and available at all times online. You also have a second dermatologist review of your mole scan later, for added peace of mind.
In its initial year, Neko identified that more than 14% of individuals required medical care, and 1% found severe health problems they weren’t aware of. For me, personally, the experience was comforting. It’s a good way to be in charge of your health — because it’s always best to act early before issues show up.
